WINDOWS DIRECT UNIVERSITY · CLIMATE GUIDES

Windows for life at higher elevations.

Start with the mountain. Then choose the window.

Discuss two things before ordering: how the glass will handle changes in elevation, and how the complete window will suit each room.

01

Where it is made

Ask about the glass unit’s manufacturing elevation.

02

How it gets here

Identify mountain passes and storage stops on the delivery route.

03

Where you live

Provide the actual installation address and site elevation.

An ordering map, not an altitude limit. Request approval for the exact glass configuration and route.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Resolve altitude before choosing the glass.

A substantial increase in elevation can create a pressure difference in sealed insulating glass, bowing panes outward and potentially damaging glass or seals. Cardinal describes pressure-equalizing tubes for certain applications. This is manufacturer guidance, not a universal specification.

Ask: “Is this exact window approved for my site and delivery route, and is that approval on my order?” Do not substitute a generic altitude cutoff for a written answer.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Six questions. One written record.

  1. What site elevation and delivery route have you used to specify my order?
  2. Has the manufacturer approved each glass size and configuration?
  3. Does the order need pressure management? Who handles it, and when?
  4. What gas fill and complete-window ratings apply to the delivered product?
  5. What installation instructions and warranty terms apply?
  6. Who should I contact if glass looks bowed, cracked or fogged between panes?

Keep the answers with your order. Do not drill, cut or seal pressure-management parts yourself; have the supplier resolve the required procedure.

Common questions

Does every mountain home need triple pane?

Pane count does not answer the altitude question. Compare the proposed product’s ratings, cost and approval for your home.

Can I start with an online quote?

Yes, for a budget conversation. An estimate does not establish altitude suitability or replace manufacturer review.

What about a Utah canyon home?

Use your property’s location rather than a nearby city’s elevation. Note exposed rooms and the expected delivery route.
